Abscope Awarded Platinum Excellence for Dundalk Marine Terminal Cap Project

Abscope Environmental, Inc. was contracted by Jacobs Project Management Co. in August 2021 for execution of the Area 1501/1602 Engineered Cap Project located in Dundalk, Maryland. This multi-phased project consisted of placement of a geomembrane and asphalt cap over 21 acres to eliminate groundwater infiltration into the subsurface and better control groundwater levels Chromium Ore Processing Residue (COPR).

The site is located on the southeast end of the Dundalk Marine Terminal (DMT), where on a daily basis, potentially thousands of vehicles and machinery are in transit for import/export purposes. In addition to vehicular risks, Abscope was faced with controlling airborne dust and associated risks of hexavalent chromium inhalation.

The complexity of this project and its monumental improvements on Terminal operations are the driving factors as to why it is deemed worthy of the Excellence Award, being selected over hundreds of entries. Abscope’s attention to detail, team collaboration, and rigorous health and safety practices allowed the project to be successfully completed on time and incident-free.
